Version 1.1.4 |
You may not have played Checkers since you were a kid, but it's actually a sophisticated strategy game.
Each player gets twelve pieces, arranged on the black squares of a checkerboard, which is the same as a chessboard. Your goal is to wipe out your opponent by jumping over their pieces. If you reach the far end of the board, your lowly pawns (which can only move forward) turn into kings, which can also go backward. This helps a lot.
Trying to tempt or trap your opponent into making a mistake, while not making any of your own, is challenging. You can play both sides of the game, or play against the computer. To make it easier to learn, Growly Checkers has three levels of play for its computer player: from "too stupid to live" to "if this were a dog it would trip over its own ears." The highest setting isn't a genius by any means, but it will beat you if you're not careful.
It's easy to learn but hard to master. Just like a lot of things in life, but that's what makes it fun.
